Writing For Change is a course about literacy, rhetoric, service, texts, writing and writers. Our focus will be on conversations that explore the act of writing; the people who do it and how they do it. In Writing For Change you will be exposed to a variety of genres from both inside and outside of the University as well as the writers who work within them. You will discuss and write about the canons of rhetoric, showing your knowledge by analyzing texts and writing for academic readers about writers, writing, literacy, service and discourse. The content of this course focuses on questioning what we mean when we talk about “texts,” how we define community and what it is do to service in relation to writing and literacy. We will unpack assumptions about rhetoric and you will gain important tools to navigate genres that will help you in the University and beyond.
Note: Our class meets MWF from 9:30am to 10:20am.
