About This Course

As an introduction to the discipline, this course must accomplish two principle objectives: 1) To provide a rigorous and comprehensive survey course for the student intending to major in Psychology; 2) to provide a sufficiently representative course for students who may not be able to fit another psychology course into their undergraduate education.  What this means to you in practical terms is that you will be expected to learn the material assigned for this course and to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the course material in scheduled objective and subjective assessments.  Throughout this course, and in the variety of topics assigned, we will attempt to strike a reasonable balance between breadth and depth of what is covered.  Content chosen for this course will seek to place psychology in a historical context in order to foster an appreciation for psychology’s pivotal role among academic disciplines as being the science situated at the crossroads of the natural sciences and social sciences.
